Use SFC and DISM scans
- To run SFC scan, click the Windows key + S hotkey, enter cmd in the search utility, and select Run as administrator under Command prompt.
- Enter the following command in the prompt: DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Press the Enter key to run the command.
- Restart your desktop or laptop.
Disable startup programs
- Start Task Manager by pressing the Windows + R keys
- Go to Processes tab
- Right-click the problematic process
- Select Disable
- Check if the issue is resolved
- Run the Task Manager as administrator
- Disable 3rd-party antivirus
- Delete unnecessary files
Use System Restore
- Press Windows + I to open Settings, and choose the Update & Security option.
- Now, click the Recovery tab.
- Click the Get started button under System Restore, and follow the instructions on the screen.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings, and choose the Update & Security option.
- Now, select the Recovery tab.
- Click the Get started button under Reset this PC.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.

Perform a Clean boot
- Press Windows + R to open the Run prompt, type msconfig in the text field, and hit Enter.
- Go to the Services tab, and locate Windows Search (Preview).
- Select it, and under the General tab, uncheck the Load System Services option.
- Go to the Startup tab, and uncheck all the entries there.
- Now, go back to the main window, click Restart, and restart your PC.
Perform a full system scan
- Press the Windows key + S hotkey, enter scanner in the search box, and click on the relevant search result.
- Choose the Full scan option.
Run the System File Checker
- To run System File Checker, press the Windows key + S hotkey, type cmd, and click on the relevant search result.
- Next, type the following command and press Enter: sfc/scannow
Perform a restart in Safe mode
- Press the Windows key + S button, type power, and select Power Options.
- Select the Choose what the power button does option.
- Click the Change Settings that are currently unavailable option.
- Uncheck the Turn on fast startup option.
- Click the Save changes button.
- Restart your computer.
- Perform a restart in Safe mode
Reinstall the antivirus
- Press Windows Key + S and enter antivirus. Select Get more apps from the results.
- Select your preferred antivirus from the list and click on the Uninstall button.
- Follow the instructions provided by the app to remove that software.
