Copying Large Files in windows 7 64-bit: A Step-by-Step Guide

Copy the files to another location

1. When you try to copy or move a large file, Windows tells you that the size of the file is greater than the supported limit.
2. To copy a file, select the file, right-click it and select Copy.
   
3. Navigate to the location where you want to copy the file.
4. Right click in that folder and select Paste.

Switch the drive letters

1. Start by switching the drive letters in use. First, close File Explorer and right-click the Start button.
2. Click Explore to navigate to the folder containing the files you want to copy.
   
3. Select the drive letter for the folder, and press the Unpin from Quick access option.
4. Then, right-click the selected drive letter, and select Properties.
5. Select the Change drive letters or paths option.
6. Select the Do not assign drive letter option, and click OK.
   
7. Copy the files
   Next, you’ll copy the files. First, open File Explorer, and navigate to the folder containing the files you want to copy.
8. Then, right-click the folder, and select Copy.
9. To copy the files, press the Windows key, then type the cmd, and right-click Command prompt in the search results.
10. Click Run as administrator to start Command prompt with the administrative privileges.
    
11. When Command prompt opens, type ren B: C: > Enter.
12. Then, type copy * /y C: > Enter.
13. Press Enter after both commands are typed.

Edit the Registry

1. Click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click on Regedit.
2. In Registry Editor, click File, and then click Export.
   
3. In the Save In box, type a path, and then click Save.
4. In the Save as type box, click All Files.
5. Click Save.
6. Edit the Registry
   Click Start, type regedit in the search box, and then click on Regedit.
7. In Registry Editor, click File, and then click Import.
8. In the Save In box, type the path, and then click Save.
   
9. In the Save as type box, click All Files.
10. Click Save.

Check Windows event logs

1. Open Event Viewer
   Expand Windows Logs > select Application
2. Click on Windows NT > double click Application log
   
3. Scroll down and look for the log titled, Event ID 5675

Run DISM

1. Press Windows Key + X to open the Power User Menu, and select Command prompt (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin).
2. When Command prompt starts, run the following command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
3. Wait for the command to complete. This could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the speed of your computer.

Run SFC Scan

1. Type cmd in the Windows Search bar, right-click Command prompt, and select Run as administrator.
2. When Command prompt opens, type sfc /scannow and press Enter to run it.
